Challenges and Project activities - Crop OFE

The digital agricultural technology currently being applied by large-scale producers is mainly used to manage agricultural operations. However, small and medium-sized producers still face difficulties in integrating and analyzing machine data for an efficient agricultural management. Therefore, there is room to improve yield and recommendations based on data.

In this Project, we aim to realize environmentally and cost-conscious farming driven by data by using digital tools to monitor soil analysis, harvest operations, as well as to provide services that combine land, climate and production information to support certification processes.
Since there are many Japanese companies that are advanced in technological fields, we aim to adapt technologies that will greatly improve productivity of the crop area in Brazil in collaboration with producers.

Ultimately, we hope to collaborate with Embrapa's AgroAPI and other services so that small and medium-sized producers can use these services at low cost.

OFE concept at the start of the Project:
-
Combination of production and market information
-
Support for farming decisions using digital tools
-
Linkage between land registration and conservation area monitoring
-
Issuance of ESG certificates
According to Embrapa:
"The AgroAPI platform offers agricultural information and models generated by Embrapa that can be used by companies, public and private institutions and startups to create software, web systems and mobile applications for the agricultural sector, reducing costs and time. Access to data and models is done virtually through APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) – a set of standards and programming languages that allow automated communication between different systems in an agile and secure manner".

Embrapa has 7 APIs available in the Store, which are:

-
ClimAPI: The Climate Predictability API (ClimAPI) is aimed at supporting the construction of digital solutions directed to precision agriculture, assisting producers, technicians and companies in the processes of planning, decision-making and agricultural monitoring..
-
Agritec: The Agritec API gathers useful information for managing agricultural crop production.
-
SATVeg: The SATVeg API is derived from the Temporal Vegetation Analysis System (SATVeg), a web tool developed by Embrapa Digital Agriculture, designed to generate and visualize temporal profiles of the NDVI and EVI vegetative indexes for Brazil and all of South America, with the aim of supporting territorial management and agricultural and environmental monitoring activities.
-
AgroTermos: The AgroTermos API consists of a set of web services that allow access and consultation of the complete AgroTermos content. It is a set of operations that promote machine-machine communication, without the need for human interference.
-
SmartSolos: The SmartSolos Expert API enables the classification of soil profiles in Brazil through an expert system implemented based on the rules of the 5th edition of the Brazilian Soil Classification System (SiBCS), which is the official taxonomic system for soil classification in Brazil.
-
PlantAnnot: In the area of bioinformatics, Embrapa makes available the PlantAnnot API, which allows access to information on genes and proteins of more than 50 plant species stored in the PlantAnnot system database.
-
Bioinsumos: The Bioinsumos API gathers information on registered inoculants and products for controlling pests and invasive plants, which are within the concept of bioinputs for organic agriculture and other production systems.
