Between August 16 and 19, a high-ranking delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) visited western Paraná to assess the region's potential for a Precision Agriculture project in partnership with Brazil. Led by Dr. Sakae Shibuzawa, one of the world's leading authorities on Precision Agriculture and a professor at the Tokyo University of Agriculture, the delegation took part in a seminar in Toledo, organized at the request of the Paraná Cooperative Organization (OCEPAR), JICA's partner in Brazil.
As well as the seminar, the delegation visited small farms and the Biopark. Victor Donaduzzi, president of the Biopark, highlighted the importance of the visit. “Receiving a delegation of this magnitude, with representatives from renowned universities that invest in and develop advanced technologies, is a valuable opportunity for the Biopark. We had the chance to present what we have been doing in terms of education, such as the Science Club for young people and children from the age of four; what we have been doing in the area of research, with our cutting-edge laboratories, such as those in biotechnology, as well as sharing our development plans. I believe that this institutional visit could be the start of something that could then develop into other activities,” he says.
